How to Collect Iron in your Backyard

Aug 11, 2009 10:47 PM

Everyone loves to find hidden treasure, so how do you do it without a map?

Buy or borrow a metal detector.

Follow the instructions on how to use the metal detector.

At night you can use a flashlight and shine it at the ground. The metal should reflect the light as long as it's not too rusty.

Tips

  • Using on a sunny day can be more enjoyable.
  • Another great location to find things is the beach, as many people lose things in the sand.
  • You may want to turn it into a game, whoever finds the biggest piece gets a prize.
  • You can also use a magnet, if you have a strong one, but it's harder to find metal.
  • If you want, you can make your own metal detector.

Warnings

  • Be careful. Some things found in the ground can be rusty. It is a good idea to use a pair of gloves for safety reasons.
  • If it looks like it should not be touched, it probably should not be touched.
